What's Your Superpower?

Part of being a child of God is receiving a gift (or gifts) from him. We call these gifts, spiritual gifts. Not all denominations believe all gifts still exist and that's okay...our church does. We feel strongly about people knowing who they are, what their gift is, and for them to operate in their gifting. It's important to us (my husband and I) to find what you're passionate about (which usually is also your gifting) and to encourage you in that area.

Some of these gifts can be found in 1 Corinthians 12:
Spiritual Gifts
12 Now, dear brothers and sisters,[a] regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this. 2 You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols. 3 So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.

4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.

7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice[b]; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.[c] 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages,[d] while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
. . .
27 All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. 28 Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church:

first are apostles,
second are prophets,
third are teachers,
then those who do miracles,
those who have the gift of healing,
those who can help others,
those who have the gift of leadership,
those who speak in unknown languages.

I found a test online that was fun to take in helping you identify your areas of gifting. This test is NOT the end all, be all, Holy anointed test that tells you everything about yourself. It can be used as a guidance or even a confirmation of what you already know. Or it could be totally wrong. I've found it to be pretty close to the truth but definitely nothing like hearing what your gifting is from the Holy Spirit himself. This quiz is quite long but if you have the time and are curious, check it out. It's one of the only quizzes that doesn't require your information to proceed. Take it HERE.

Please be proactive in discovering or fostering your gift. The church body needs each piece to function properly. When you withhold what you can offer, the body suffers. It says so in 1 Corinthians 12:14-21
14 Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. 15 If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? 18 But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. 19 How strange a body would be if it had only one part! 20 Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. 21 The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”

I hope you have fun discovering who God made you to be! May you be blessed and find your "superpower"! ;)

  1. I have to say Jessie... this is my favorite post so far. Of course, it has to do with finding one's gifting, so that might have something to do with it. It reminds me that God has not left us alone, and that he has gifts for the body that He wants to see active in each believer. Fires me up!

What's funny about this topic is that we get asked this all the time. Tons of believers want to be activated, but are too afraid to ask. If you find yourself asking God to show you the spiritual gift that He has entrusted to you, you are in good company. Many mature believers still struggle with this concept. I highly recommend meeting with and praying with Jessie on this subject. It's loads of fun and helps to know how you are designed to function in the body.

    1. Thank you so much, Jarrod. It is a blast to find each person's gift and encourage them in it. My hope is for every believer to feel the importance of knowing God's gift.

Reforming Undesirable Behavior

You know that thing you do that you don't wanna do but you keep doing it because you can't stop doing it? These behaviors might include: lying, cheating, raging, gossiping, pornography, drinking, drugs, eating, throwing up, etc. Reforming these behaviors on your own can prove to be a little tricky. I'd say reforming undesirable behavior might even be impossible on your own. But there is still hope for us. With the love of God, the power of the Holy Spirit and a renewed mind, you can reform your behavior. Youth conference with lots of God encounters! An encounter with God is the easiest way to reform undesirable behavior because the encounter will fill you with the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord renews our minds in a way that informs our bodies of what's beneficial to our spiritual health in the eyes of God. So, your mouth doesn't want to lie anymore; your tongue won't allow you to eat certain things; your eyes will be opened to the evil of pornogra

Don't Pick Up Hitch Hikers...

My husband's passion for hearing God and sharing his words is inspiring. The knowledge God gives him to articulate to his people is astounding. It amazes me that my husband holds these spiritual words within him and nearly bursts with excitement on Sunday trying to get it all out to a physical world. Which brings up Joshua 23. This chapter is Joshua's final charge to the leaders and future generations. What is a charge? It's kind of like issuing a challenge and a warning all at the same time. At weddings, the minister charges the couple with the responsibility associated with marriage...in Joshua, he is charging the leaders to beware of the physical world around them. They've driven out the big tribes from the Promised Land but a few stragglers still remain and Joshua warns the leaders to avoid any entanglements with them. Temptation is sure to be present among these stragglers and they would be wise to remember all God has done for them. He said: 6 “Be very strong;

Moving Forward

Wouldn't it be fun to go back and live life knowing what you know now? To experience life a second time, knowing the end and that everything turned out just fine? Well, we can't go back. So let's go FORWARD knowing we will be victorious through God! Let's move forward knowing that we come out better, stronger, healthier people! Live your life with joy in the Lord and enthusiasm in who he's made you to be. Get excited about the daily grind and consider it a blessing. Each day is a day you won't get back and get to relive, so live like it matters. Get excited about God's purpose and timing because it is perfect!
