Joshua in a Nutshell

This week we covered Joshua 24. Basically, Joshua reflects on all that's happened and tells the people to remember God. (Joshua:14, 15) This post is a quick and dry summary of allllll my previous posts (which are linked into the points listed below):
1) God established a leader in Joshua; Moses was a powerful leader and his he passed his mantle to Joshua, like a spiritual inheritance.
---> His first responsibility was to come under authority.
------> Each leader has a leader to come under. Even the highest power on Earth has to submit to someone, namely God. Coming under authority by submitting to their guidance is of utmost importance to your well being.

2) A partnership with the Lord is established.
---> God does his part first and then humans need to do their part. For example, God sent a hail storm in Joshua 10 and the people still had to fight the battle with those remaining.
---> God has an opinion about his dominion and we could do well to ask him for direction.

3) They set up a physical reminder of their spiritual victories. (memorial stones)
---> A modern day example would be a diamond wedding ring. A diamond is a literal stone that is set on the finger of the bride as a reminder of the spiritual union that took place on her wedding day. It is also a symbol that shows her heart is taken.

4) After the conquering of most of the Promised Land, they had to continue fighting off the leftover tribes.
---> Because of this, God gets to show his glory time and again.
---> As you grow spiritually, new issues become illuminated that you get to "kick out".
---> Your spiritual growth brings you to new levels of freedom.

5) God goes before us and prepares a place for us to reside and thrive (physical or metaphorical)
---> God has a plan and purpose for YOU!

6) A little bit of sin corrupts the whole body (remember Achan's theft and the punishment is brought his family)
---> Corruption can come in the form of sickness in the body (headaches, back aches, nightmares, etc), chaos in your own life, or fear.
---> You can address the sin and come back into alignment with repentance and forgiveness. The trick is RECOGNIZING the sin and doing something about it.

7) Lastly, you can't do it alone.
---> Despite pride or lack of worth (which is another form of pride), make a point to stand together with your brothers in Christ and hear God together and for each other.

Reforming Undesirable Behavior

You know that thing you do that you don't wanna do but you keep doing it because you can't stop doing it? These behaviors might include: lying, cheating, raging, gossiping, pornography, drinking, drugs, eating, throwing up, etc. Reforming these behaviors on your own can prove to be a little tricky. I'd say reforming undesirable behavior might even be impossible on your own. But there is still hope for us. With the love of God, the power of the Holy Spirit and a renewed mind, you can reform your behavior. Youth conference with lots of God encounters! An encounter with God is the easiest way to reform undesirable behavior because the encounter will fill you with the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord renews our minds in a way that informs our bodies of what's beneficial to our spiritual health in the eyes of God. So, your mouth doesn't want to lie anymore; your tongue won't allow you to eat certain things; your eyes will be opened to the evil of pornogra...

Don't Pick Up Hitch Hikers...

My husband's passion for hearing God and sharing his words is inspiring. The knowledge God gives him to articulate to his people is astounding. It amazes me that my husband holds these spiritual words within him and nearly bursts with excitement on Sunday trying to get it all out to a physical world. Which brings up Joshua 23. This chapter is Joshua's final charge to the leaders and future generations. What is a charge? It's kind of like issuing a challenge and a warning all at the same time. At weddings, the minister charges the couple with the responsibility associated with marriage...in Joshua, he is charging the leaders to beware of the physical world around them. They've driven out the big tribes from the Promised Land but a few stragglers still remain and Joshua warns the leaders to avoid any entanglements with them. Temptation is sure to be present among these stragglers and they would be wise to remember all God has done for them. He said: 6 “Be very strong;...

Tips for Teachers for a Better Work Environment

Sun kissed and fully rested, teachers walk into the school building for in-service and the start of school full of zen and good vibes. Now let me ask how long you think all those good vibes are going to last? Come on...we all know that teachers are notorious for drama. gossip and COMPLAINING. BUT with Jesus fresh on the mind, you can steer clear of that this year. This year, let’s approach each situation with prayer first and action later. Here are my tips for a more pleasant work environment... Avoid Drama: STEP AWAY from the he said, she said game and mind your own business. If someone wants to talk to you about an offense towards someone else or takes competitiveness a little too far, emotionally back away. Change the subject or even say, “I’d rather not talk about that.” Old habits die hard so when you’re alerted to drama ask God to help you back away.  Proverbs 21:23 “Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble.” Stop Gossiping: ...
