Life Renovation

One of my favorite things to do is take old furniture that's been tossed aside and make it new again.I found this old dresser in a second-hand store that was a little ratty. It had some water damage, missing screws and just needed some TLC in general. But all I saw was it's potential! It was exactly what I'd been searching for and it had great potential to be made into a beautiful piece of furniture. I sent a picture to my husband and he wasn't too keen on it but said he trusted me to make that decision. Sooooooooo after a couple days of thinking, I bought it. We took it home and I couldn't wait to get started on it! I sanded it down, cleaned it up, spray painted the handles, primed all the surfaces and finished it with a fresh coat of paint. What used to be an ugly, tossed-aside piece became beautiful and welcome in our home.

I think I love transforming furniture so much because it reminds me of the way God works in our lives when we say yes to him. It seems like a similar process of starting out broken down, chipped in places and missing pieces. But God sees us for what our purpose is. He sees us for the potential we have and the way he intended us to be. He loves us and is excited about our transformation.

We were ugly and broken in our sin but when we accepted Jesus into our hearts and declared God as our King, our transformation began. He picks us up from our old lives and transports us into new life. He sands us down, repairs the damage, washes us clean, primes us by encouraging words that are never forgotten, and coats us with new paint. All of that combined makes for a bright, shiny vessel with a renewed purpose and a more attractive appearance that comes from within. Our outer appearance reflects the time, energy and loving care that went into our transformation. The process makes us new and fresh and ready to take on whatever is placed on our shoulders. I know that if re-doing a dresser brings me so much joy that I can’t even imagine how God feels when he sees us be made new. It must be exhilarating for him.

If you're in the process of being transformed, don't be discouraged. The process might seem ugly or like it'll never get better but if you stay faithful to God and his ability to bring you through anything, the end result will be worth it. Be reminded of the fact that God is good and everything he does is for good. Even the bad stuff sent your way can be used for God's glory (1 Thessalonians 2:17-20). He has the ability to take the worst possible things in life and use them to create a victorious life for you. Keep seeking God and have faith in him as he renovates your life.

Reforming Undesirable Behavior

You know that thing you do that you don't wanna do but you keep doing it because you can't stop doing it? These behaviors might include: lying, cheating, raging, gossiping, pornography, drinking, drugs, eating, throwing up, etc. Reforming these behaviors on your own can prove to be a little tricky. I'd say reforming undesirable behavior might even be impossible on your own. But there is still hope for us. With the love of God, the power of the Holy Spirit and a renewed mind, you can reform your behavior. Youth conference with lots of God encounters! An encounter with God is the easiest way to reform undesirable behavior because the encounter will fill you with the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord renews our minds in a way that informs our bodies of what's beneficial to our spiritual health in the eyes of God. So, your mouth doesn't want to lie anymore; your tongue won't allow you to eat certain things; your eyes will be opened to the evil of pornogra

Don't Pick Up Hitch Hikers...

My husband's passion for hearing God and sharing his words is inspiring. The knowledge God gives him to articulate to his people is astounding. It amazes me that my husband holds these spiritual words within him and nearly bursts with excitement on Sunday trying to get it all out to a physical world. Which brings up Joshua 23. This chapter is Joshua's final charge to the leaders and future generations. What is a charge? It's kind of like issuing a challenge and a warning all at the same time. At weddings, the minister charges the couple with the responsibility associated with marriage...in Joshua, he is charging the leaders to beware of the physical world around them. They've driven out the big tribes from the Promised Land but a few stragglers still remain and Joshua warns the leaders to avoid any entanglements with them. Temptation is sure to be present among these stragglers and they would be wise to remember all God has done for them. He said: 6 “Be very strong;
