God is in Control | Dreams Really Do Come True

How does a girl with a B.S. in Mathematics get a full-time job at a junior college? For someone like me - someone that dreamed of becoming a teacher her whole life, taught high school and didn’t really like it - this is a dream come true. I get to teach a subject I love to students I adore in an environment that suits my personality. I’ll tell you how I moved into a full-time position: it was all God. Sure, I used the tools He gave me, but He provided the timing, circumstances and open positions to make my dream possible.  As an adjunct math instructor for developmental classes (that’s a part-time position), I began mixing my skills, experience and training with my passion and what I found was pure joy everyday. My co-workers started asking me if I’d considered a master’s degree and working full time since I enjoyed my job so much. To be honest, these things hadn’t really even crossed my mind; I was so busy enjoying every day in each moment that I wasn’t looking to change an...

The Importance of a Support System

The events of each passing year is a reminder of how important a sturdy support system is. To me, a support system consists of people who are like minded and rally alongside you in every turn of life. They are the people who bring us closer to God, remind us of how good He is and push us towards our dreams in a healthy way. It’s only natural for us to desire a support system and to feel alone when we don’t have one. Think about it: we were born with or placed in the care of parents to feed, change, love, guide and care for us. We grow up seeking to expand our support system as our lives change. My husband and I quickly found in the ministry that we could not survive without one in place. Our support system is multi-dimensional, dependable and loving. This is what our support system consists of: God: Our biggest supporter and strongest foundation. Our faith in God, relationship with him and knowledge that he is ALWAYS good has carried us through everything. God loves, encourag...

Responsibilities as a Preacher’s Wife

Upon introductions, we often ask the other person what he/she does. The easiest way to answer that question for me is to say, “A preacher’s wife full-time and a teacher part-time.” Even though this perfectly describes my role, it leaves people wondering what a preacher’s wife actually does to warrant “full-time” status. Some quick questions I can answer upfront are:   Is “preacher’s wife” an actual job title? No, not really.   The closest example to “preacher’s wife” I can think of is the First Lady. There are a certain amount of expectations that come with the role, but there are few requirements I have to fulfill. Does a preacher’s wife get paid for what she does? No. I volunteer my time freely and wouldn’t expect payment. I’m sure at a bigger church if I had an actual job to report to that I’d get paid, but at our micro-church no such position is needed. Pi Party Like I said before, I answer to no one as far as a boss or supervisor, so there is very little re...

Pros and Cons of a Preacher's Wife Life

I often get asked if I like being a preacher’s wife and what it’s like to be in that role. Depending on who’s asking, I’ll answer with “it’s fun,” or a more detailed description of what it’s really like. I find it difficult to put my finger on exactly what life is like in this role because I grew up in a preacher’s home. Being in a preacher’s family is part of who I am, so I feel like I live in this role naturally. Even though I thought I never wanted to marry a preacher, I can see God’s plans were perfect for me. Like I said, I grew up in a preacher’s home, so I’m well aware of the politics that go along with the job. I’m used to the spotlight, being watched and being criticized…it’s part of how I grew up and part of my current profession (teaching). I know God prepared me for my role as a preacher’s wife, and I know he protects me from a lot. Today, I’m sharing the pros and cons of being a preacher’s wife. For every pro there seems to be a con that follows. However, the fir...

On a Mission.

It’s my passion to share the word of God to anyone willing to listen. From the conception of this website, I’ve tried to focus on the teaching stand point of sharing how God can be present in YOUR life. After a couple months of barely posting, mostly praying and trying to catch up, I’ve decided to write the blog from a more personal stand point of what God is doing in my life: the “preacher’s wife” portion of who I am. I am a full-time preacher’s wife and teacher; however, my employment as a teacher is only part-time. I consider myself a full-time teacher because it is a major part of my gift package from God. Even when I wasn’t teaching anywhere, I found myself seeking people out to help, tutor or guide. It is part of who I am and a passion I can’t ignore. Learning new strategies for the classroom An outlet for my passion of teaching is to work as a developmental math teacher for a junior college. What is developmental math, you say? It’s the class students take when the...

The One

God showed me a little bit about our identity through my understanding of mathematics. It may seem scary at first, but I'll explain it so stick with me :) I'll start with a simple example to explain what God is saying in the above graphic. 1*3 = 3, right? Yes. 1 is the identity for multiplication because it is the only number that won't change the characteristics of other numbers. 1*4 = 4 1*5 = 5 and so on. Jesus is a Christian's true identity so: Jesus * you = YOU He is the only factor that can produce the true you. The you without the hitch hikers that jump on your mind and heart from the troubles of this world, your upbringing and your worry for the future. . My husband and I have been focusing our mornings on spending more time with God. He prefers an unhindered quiet time of soaking, praying and reading while I enjoy time on the sofa with coffee, puppies, reading and praying. I love to see how the word applies to my life and also how it provides e...

Reforming Undesirable Behavior

You know that thing you do that you don't wanna do but you keep doing it because you can't stop doing it? These behaviors might include: lying, cheating, raging, gossiping, pornography, drinking, drugs, eating, throwing up, etc. Reforming these behaviors on your own can prove to be a little tricky. I'd say reforming undesirable behavior might even be impossible on your own. But there is still hope for us. With the love of God, the power of the Holy Spirit and a renewed mind, you can reform your behavior. Youth conference with lots of God encounters! An encounter with God is the easiest way to reform undesirable behavior because the encounter will fill you with the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord renews our minds in a way that informs our bodies of what's beneficial to our spiritual health in the eyes of God. So, your mouth doesn't want to lie anymore; your tongue won't allow you to eat certain things; your eyes will be opened to the evil of pornogra...

Eliminate Worry

You know that feeling when things aren’t working out the way you planned? Maybe you expected a better outcome for yourself and you’re worried about how everything will turn out? You lose sleep over issues that are out of your control and you have anxiety about the future. As the reader, you might notice all the “you’s” in the above sentences. There wasn’t much of “God” mentioned but there was a lot mentioned about your own well-being and yourself. This is an example of operating in the flesh. If you haven’t grown up in church, you might associate “flesh” with skin and you’re wondering why I’m talking about skin. “Flesh” in church-ese for operating in this world without the guidance and fruit of the Holy Spirit. Flesh focuses a lot on “self” – self-gratification, selfishness, self-satisfaction, self-advancement, self-consciousness, self-protection, etc. Walking in the flesh usually ends in anxiety, worry, depression, addictions, destruction, anger and fear. Matthew 7:13,14 Ent...

Your Destiny Revealed Here

A Jesus lover's destiny ultimately is to live eternity with him. In the meantime, we are often left wondering what our destiny is here on Earth ( 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 ). We ask ourselves what we were made for or where we are headed in life. This Sunday, God revealed through Pastor Jim three things about destiny. Your destiny is to: 1) Have a relationship with God.  Simply put, a relationship with God entails spending time with him. Your time may be spent talking, listening, singing, soaking, dancing, resting, or any other various form that allows you to spend time with God. A reminder of God's promise and the wiping out of evil men. 2) Have victory over darkness. What is darkness? Darkness is anything evil in your life that drowns out God's light and love. Victory over darkness means: by the power of the Holy Spirit, you have the ability to rid your life of darkness and see the light of God's love. For example, I had reoccurring dreams about people accusing ...

A Sneak Peek

I’m writing this post to offer you a sneak peek into a pastor and his wife’s life. There’s not exactly a job description lined out or a person that my husband has to answer daily like a normal boss so figuring a daily agenda out takes prayer and a little trial and error. I have to admit, at first we had no idea what we were supposed to be doing on a daily basis. And I have to admit that even now sometimes we wonder what we should be doing or if we should be doing more. Making a video together for my Facebook page. As part of my calling, I’m very involved in my husband’s ministry. We act as one unit and most people are not used to that because typically, the pastor acts as a single unit that takes care of all his duties alone. In our case, we are called to work together and we do that the best we know how as a single organism with one mind and shared heart. Our uniqueness and oneness often times puts us in a box all by ourselves but we have each other and have become stro...
